Index slash Life Update

Index: 250

As you can see, the Ferguson Index looks – low. I haven’t gone bust, but it is very close. Unfortunately we’re not talking poker.

This is real life.

For the past four months I have had very little work, apart from the odd job. Sure there’s been a few highlights, but not nearly enough to make ends meet. This is due to a lot of circumstances, partly the general lousy economic climate at my primary source of income, partly my own fault for not being more active in seeking out new clients.

I kept hoping things would turn around, but they didn’t. Then I hoped some more, but that didn’t change much either, and we’re now at a point where things can go really bad very soon, if something good doesn’t happen. Thank God, my girlfriend has a full time job, or we would have been in even worse shape, than we are now.

I tried to protect my bankroll for as long as I could. It’s not huge but it represents thousands of hours of hard labour. Tonight things came to a head in the house and I’ve finally admitted there’s no other way about it than to cash out. It’ll be a little like pissing in our family pants. It’ll keep us warm for a bit, but it won’t save us in the long run.

I still hope this is a temporary situation, and that next week I can let you all know that I’m okay and back on track.

I’ve left myself just about what I deposited back then. I made it grow, so I can do it again, even if this time I have my back against the wall, since I can’t rebuy if I flunk it. At least not until the job situation changes.

Meanwhile, if you are about to expand your poker library, I’d appreciate if you’d consider buying from my book store. Prices are the same as in a regular Amazon.com purchase, but I’ll make a few percent for referring the sale. Chances are you will not find what you are looking for, in which case you can drop me a note and I’ll send you a link with my affiliate code in it.

Of course the blog lives on. The best things in life are – after all – free!

Sorry to hear that things are rough right now. I think just like poker, there’s variance in life.

Just as there is variance, so must one vary one’s style, and come at the game with a different strategy. I’m going through a very similar period. The best of luck to you.

I hate life variance as much as I hate getting caught overplaying a medium hand. No. I hate it more, so if only I could plug that leak, I could actually put bread on the table from playing micro stakes.

Thanks for both your comments, we’re up the creek here, but I hope a new paddle will float by soon.
